How we approach it

The same device can be run very differently. This is how Grays approaches this treatment.

With a collagen booster, the most important idea is remodelling — and macrophages are central to it. M1 macrophages clear the wound and start inflammation; M2 macrophages activate fibroblasts, build collagen and rebuild tissue.

The ideal sequence is a sufficient early M1 response → a timely switch to M2 → collagen synthesis → the signal ending → realignment. If early inflammation is excessive, the M2 phase runs long and the sheer volume of collagen grows — which instead produces hard, contracted, lumpy scarring.

What makes skin better is not increasing the total amount of collagen. It is restoring something close to normal dermis: the right turnover between type I and type III, the thickness and direction of the fibres, how they bind, and the balance with elastin and GAGs.

That is why we work mainly with Juvelook Volume and Ultracol, which can form a moderate — not excessive — amount of collagen while keeping the inflammatory response low.

02What to expect

Changes over time

As the injected material gradually biodegrades, collagen production continues — so rather than filling instantly, the skin fills in progressively over time.

Right after treatment01

Right after treatment

Small bumps and needle marks at the injection sites are possible and usually settle within 1–3 days.

2–4 weeks02

2–4 weeks

This is when we check the first response. The next session is given in this window.

After the course03

After the course

As sessions accumulate, many people notice changes in skin texture, hydration and firmness. This varies by individual.

Maintenance04

Maintenance

Once the course is complete, care moves to maintenance every 3–6 months.

As the biodegradable polymer breaks down slowly, it induces collagen formation. The change is gradual rather than an immediate fill.

To reduce adverse responses such as nodules, a board-certified dermatologist injects personally, following the dilution and injection protocol.

07FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How does Juvelook work, and how is it different from Juvelook Volume?

Juvelook is an injectable that combines PDLLA (a biodegradable polymer) with hyaluronic acid, prompting the skin to produce its own collagen while the material gradually breaks down. Rather than filling the area instantly, it works by building change over time. Juvelook is used for texture concerns such as fine lines, pores, and shallow scars, while Juvelook Volume is used to restore volume in hollow areas; which one suits you is decided after we confirm your goal at consultation.

Who is Juvelook suited to, and when is another treatment a better choice?

We consider it for those concerned about skin texture, or those who want gradual, natural-looking volume change without the feel of filler. On the other hand, if you want to see volume right after injection, a hyaluronic acid filler may be a better fit. Even the same hollowness can call for a different approach depending on its cause, so we decide together after consultation.

How long does the treatment take, and how painful is it?

The treatment itself takes about 20-30 minutes, and we describe the pain as low to moderate. Topical numbing cream is applied beforehand to reduce discomfort during injection. How it feels varies by area and individual sensitivity.

Will I bruise or swell? What should I be careful about afterward?

Slight swelling or bruising may appear for about 1-3 days, and it usually settles within a few days. For the first 24 hours, do not rub or press the injection sites, and avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise, and saunas on the day of treatment. We recommend waiting 2 weeks before massage or intensive skin treatments, and please contact the clinic right away if pain worsens or you notice any unexpected changes.

When will I notice results, and how long do they last?

Because Juvelook needs time for collagen to form, many people notice change as sessions accumulate rather than right after treatment. We usually check the first response at around 2-4 weeks before proceeding to the next session. Results have been reported to last over 1 year after completing the course, but how long they last varies by individual depending on skin condition and lifestyle.

How many sessions do I need?

A typical course is 2-3 sessions at 3-4 week intervals. It is difficult to judge the effect from 1 session, and the change becomes clearer once the course is complete. The timing of maintenance after the course is decided together based on your progress.

How is it different from filler?

Filler is a volumizing material that creates volume the moment it is injected, whereas Juvelook stimulates collagen production so the area fills in gradually. Filler may suit areas that need defined shape, such as the nose or chin, while Juvelook may suit natural change across broader areas. Depending on the goal, the two are sometimes planned together.

How do I choose between Juvelook and Rejuran?

If regenerating and restoring the skin's foundation is the main goal, we consider Rejuran first; if the goal is texture improvement or volume restoration through collagen production, we consider Juvelook first. If you have both concerns, we may recommend combining them. We make a recommendation suited to your goal after assessing your skin at consultation.

Can I have it together with other treatments?

It is sometimes combined with Rejuran, Potenza, filler, and other treatments depending on the goal. Whether to do them on the same day or space them apart is decided after consultation, taking into account the load on your skin and the order of treatments. If you have had any treatments recently, please let us know at your visit.

Are there side effects? Is there anything I should tell you before treatment?

Adverse reactions such as nodules (small lumps) have rarely been reported, so as a rule a board-certified dermatologist injects it directly, following the set dose and technique. Be sure to tell us at your visit if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, taking anticoagulants, or have ever had a hypersensitivity reaction to the product's ingredients. Treatment may be postponed if there is inflammation or infection at the injection site.

How much does it cost, and how do I book?

The cost depends on the product, volume, and number of sessions, and is confirmed after consultation. Reference prices can be found on the price list on our website. Juvelook Volume requires time to prepare the product in advance, so it must be booked at least 1 week ahead. To book at Grays Dermatology in Haeundae, Busan, use Naver Booking, our KakaoTalk channel, or call +82-51-710-1891; consultations are also available via LINE.

Needle marks and slight swelling last a day or two. Treatment is usually given in several sessions, so keeping to the interval matters more than the recovery itself.

Recovery course

  1. Day of treatmentInjection marks, swelling or bruising may be visible. We recommend skipping makeup that day.
  2. Days 2–3Swelling settles. Bruising can last up to a week for some people.
  3. Week 1Changes in skin texture start to show. You can return to your usual routine.
  4. Between sessionsTypically 3–5 sessions at 2–4 week intervals, depending on the product and skin condition.

Avoid during this period

  • Sauna, hot baths, strenuous exercise and alcohol — for 2 days after treatment
  • Long periods in swimming pools or public baths on the day of treatment

Contact the clinic if

  • The injection area becomes increasingly firm and red
  • Pain worsens together with warmth
  • Bruising lasts longer than 2 weeks
